Black History: Special Delivery!!
Dr. Ben Carson, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under the Trump Administration described enslaved Africans who came to the U.S. in slave ships as “immigrants” who had a dream….. He made these comments during a speech to HUD employees. No disrespect to those who willingly came here as immigrants, but enslaved Africans came here in chains and were forced to work for free. There is no logical way that Dr. Carson could or should refer to them as “immigrants”. Check out the video clip and see it for yourself!. Video clip is from USA Today.

Dr. Ben Carson should probably have stuck to what he does know: medicine. Then again, his knowledge base is probably just as outdated as his euro-centric view of the African slave trade which was a prosperous business in the ‘New World’.
Indeed, Africans were ‘immigrants’, but unwilling, involuntary hostages of white greed and the inability to separate their own former country’s historical practices of enslavement known as indentured servitude.
I agree…what was he thinking? His words spoke to the desperate need to transform U.S. curricula, particularly as it pertains to this country’s history. We can’t keep mis-educating children of color and all children who we mandate to receive a public education in the U.S.
Pardon my wordiness, but I am a strong advocate of re-inventing public education as it edits present and historical experiences which supports selective amnesia and the unfortunate ignorance of tomorrow’s leaders.

I totally agree. That her even felt comfortable using this terminology I’d an attempt to sanitize history. It was wrong on SO many levels.

Ditto! That is the kind of information that our ‘standardized’ textbooks provide young learners and developing minds. THAT is so yesterday. And we dare say ‘post-truth’? We are approaching truth, yet just as we are so close, we are yet so far! He is living proof, even as influential as he is!
