Beverly Bond (1970 – )

 Beverly Bond (1970 – present) is an African American model, DJ, producer and founder of the not-for-profit “Black Girls Rock”,  which 2006.  What started out as a t-shirt imprint has now grown into a not-for-profit mentoring initiative designed to promote empowerment and self-worth among black girls.  In 2010, Black Girls Rock launched what is now its annual signature tv event broadcast by BET highlighting the accomplishments of black women.  Black Girls Rock has also launched in Africa as well.

Prior to founding Black Girls Rock, Bond was a model and DJ.  She came to New York at the age of 17 and landed a contract with Wilhelmina Models.  Her modeling contracts included businesses such as Diesel Jeans, Guess, Nike, and Nordstroms.  Bond has always been an avid record collector.  She started doing DJ work at local clubs just for fun.  Within a year she had become one of New York’s top DJs.  Bond is truly a multi-talented, multi-dimensional entertainment and business mogul who is passionate about empowering black women and girls.

Michelle Obama, Queen Latifah, Angela Bassett, Oprah Winfrey are just a few of the women who have been honored by Black Girls Rock.  On its website the organization is described as:
