Today I was fortunate to hear some powerful gems shared by a QUEEN that I greatly admire…. Melita Travis-Johnson! One of these gems was the one listed above.
When it comes to racism and other “isms” faced by black people; we can rest assured that there are MANY forms and layers of oppression that impact us all collectively.
We must remain UNITED and vigilant in fighting oppression in all of its forms.

DISABLING THE DRIVE TO “THRIVE”
Systemic change is UNPOPULAR because it is UNPROFITABLE.
It is difficult to get to the ROOT of the problem when there are systems, institutions, and individuals who profit from the FRUIT of the problem.
Oppression runs largely (but not entirely) unopposed in its pursuit to disable the “THRIVE” reflex of the oppressed.
In fact, there are even instances when the OPPRESSED align with their oppressors; blindly accepting the lie that success can only be achieved by dependency upon the oppressor .
“Survival” skills are administered by the oppressor in small yet lethal doses to the OPPRESSED. Immunized and inoculated against THRIVING; survival is equated with success.
Eyes wide-shut, WE seem oblivious to the parade of professionals and programs that THRIVE (at our expense) while we merely SURVIVE.
